School is almost over, so it's time to gear up for summer's hottest concerts, movies and reality TV. Although this list is only a sampling of entertainment, it will keep your mind off work and school this summer.
Concerts Dave Matthews Band -Since the release of its major-label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming
in the fall of 1994, Dave and the band have been reaching old and new fans through their fine-tuned jam pop. Although the band's latest chart-topping song, American Baby is sure to be played, the obscure older music is typical for Matthews' live shows. The band is known for its live performances, so stop listening to the CDs and go to one of the shows this summer.
Coldplay -The band will hit the road in North America through September with its Twisted Logic tour storming through Cincinnati, Columbus and Pittsburgh, just to name a few of the stops. The tour is supporting the band's new album, X&Y which will be released June 7.
Vans Warped Tour -An entire day of punk rock and emo music from bands such as Simple Plan, Story of the Year and The Offspring, this music fest is a perfect way to meet some bands, as they typically take time to meet up with fans throughout the day. Movies The Dukes of Hazzard -Although some might be skeptical because Jessica Simpson plays Daisy Duke, one only can hope the movie does justice to the classic TV show. Bo, Luke and Daisy work together to save their family farm from being destroyed by Boss Hogg. The Dukes will be released Aug. 5.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory -With Johnny Depp playing Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is Tim Burton's remake of the 1971 film,Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The movie comes out July 15.
War of the Worlds -If watching Tom Cruise fight alien machines is your idea of an adventure, make sure to check out this big screen adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells novel. Prepare for the invasion June 29.
The Fantastic Four -Empowered astronauts fight Dr. Doom in a film based on the longest-running comic book in history. Starring Jessica Alba, the movie will be released July 8.
Herbie: Fully Loaded -Lindsay Lohan throws it into gear with yet another summer remake. This time, she's back with Disney in the newest version of the movie about a beat-up car with a mind of its own. The film rolls into theaters June 22.
Reality TV Beauty and the Geek -In Ashton Kutcher's newest creation, beauty queens are set up on dates with intelligent nerds. Each pair will try to learn from each other's knowledge of intellect and beauty savvy in a competition to win a $250,000 grand prize, at 9 p.m. Wednesdays on the WB.
The Cut -This new reality show might be ripping off Bravo's Project Runway
but the lucky contestants will be working with Tommy Hilfiger to create a new fashion line. The show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, on CBS.
Hell's Kitchen -Looks like TV has a new Simon Cowell -but he's in the kitchen. Chef Gordon Ramsay is looking for aspiring chefs to help open his new Los Angeles restaurant. But it appears that most people will be tuning in to hear his hysterical rants and demeaning metaphors. The show appears at 9 p.m. Mondays on FOX.
Blow Out 2 -Los Angeles hairdresser Jonathan Antin comes back for a second season as cameras follow the drama surrounding his salon, and he prepares to release a new beauty care line. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, on Bravo.
I Want to be a Hilton -Move over, Paris. Fourteen contestants will be trained by Kathy Hilton to become sophisticated New York City socialites in this competition, which will debut at 8 p.m. June 21 on NBC.
