Bullet found in East Green dorm

A trespasser might have entered the wrong room in an East Green residence hall early this week and left behind a bullet, according to an Ohio University Police Department report.

According to the report, which was released yesterday, the two residents, who live on the first floor of Shively Hall, alerted their resident director of the possible wrongful entry on Monday. The roommates said they noticed a person standing by their computer the previous night between 2 and 3 a.m. At the time, each one thought it was the other getting up in the middle of the night, the police. When they found a bullet near where each allegedly saw a figure standing the next morning, they decided to contact Jim Warner, Shively's RD.

What you have is a trespass

somebody entering a room OUPD Lt. Rich Russell said. As of this (report) I don't see where any larceny has taken place.

The bullet was identified at the scene as belonging to a .22-caliber Super X rifle.

It would be a far leap to connect a possible trespasser to actually leaving the bullet, Russell said, and just having a bullet is not actually a crime.

The decision to investigate the incident is still pending.

The residents of the room reported that their door was not secured the night of the incident, according to the report. Both men were unable to be reached for comment.
