OU field hockey team loses to Maine, Albany

The Ohio Bobcats field hockey team dominated almost every aspect of both contests they participated in this weekend.

Unfortunately, that dominance didn't include the final scores.

The Bobcats, playing at home for the first time this season, dropped both games during the weekend, making their overall season record 1-4.

Ohio started the weekend with a Friday afternoon match-up against the University of Maine, which they lost 3-2. The Bobcats controlled the first half, taking eight shots and limiting Maine to zero; however, they were unable to net any goals.

We didn't feel down on ourselves because we didn't score in the first half. We knew something would come around in the second half

sophomore Torrie Albini said. So we used the energy at halftime and we talked about what was working and made a few corrections on what wasn't which led to a couple of goals. Unfortunately

it wasn't enough.

The Bobcats scored first on freshman Rachelle Coetzee's first collegiate goal at the 42:51 mark. However, Maine struck right back, scoring less than two minutes later. The goal was the first of three Black Bear goals over the next 10 minutes.

I think we should have been ready for them because our concentration really went down after scoring

and I think we should have kept our momentum going

Coetzee said.

Albini added another goal with 12:37 remaining, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats failed to score again, leaving them with a 3-2 defeat.

The Bobcats then faced the University at Albany on Sunday afternoon, again falling 3-2.

The Bobcats netted the first two goals of the game, with freshman Estienne Coetzee scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season and junior Megan Rentschler scoring nine minutes later. Ohio had the game all but won when Albany freshman Michele Polizois scored off a penalty corner with just 22 seconds remaining, forcing the game into overtime. Albany then scored in the sudden death OT, giving Ohio its second consecutive 3-2 loss.

I'm really disappointed in terms of the results. We've outplayed two (opponents) and ended up on the wrong side of each game

Coach Neil Macmillan said. We performed very well

but we've got to finish it.
