Pitch in during Katrina relief drive

Two weeks ago, this country's Gulf region was ravaged by the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, quite possibly the most costly and deadly natural disaster to confront our nation. In one moment, hundreds of thousands of people lost everything that they spent a lifetime to gain.

In an effort to help those in this tremendous time of need, many Ohio University's student leaders, in cooperation with President Roderick McDavis and the dean of students office, are spear-heading a campuswide, two-week fund-raising campaign. Beginning today, students representing an array of organizations will be collecting donations at Shively, Nelson and Boyd dining halls during lunch hours -11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. -and dinner -4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additionally, donations will be collected at the court house, the Howard Hall site, the Oasis and College Gate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday.

Many student organizations have already promised to generously donate their time and effort to this cause. I would like to thank the members of Sigma Gamma Rho, the OU Red Cross Association, Student Senate, Circle K, UPC, United Sisters, STARS, Senior Class Council, SAB, PAD, NSSHLA, Mortar Board, College Democrats, College Republicans, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, IFC, Phi Kappa Theta, Order of Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta, WPA, TRAC, OU Environs, NAACP, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega and OURS.

There still are opportunities to join this effort. For those interested, please contact me at bf133902@ohiou.edu. Your generosity and heartfelt gratitude is appreciated by all.
