The Athens County Commissioners decided again yesterday to table a resolution of support for State Issue 1, an Ohio initiative that combines road improvement and technological advancement programs in order to pass them both.
Both Athens County Planning Director Bob Eichenberg and Athens County Deputy Engineer for Operations Michael Canterbury asked the commissioners to support the initiative.
State Issue 1 combines the State Capital Improvements Program, a road and infrastructure improvement initiative from the Ohio Public Works Commission, and The Third Frontier Project, a program that provides funding for technology projects, Canterbury said.
At their regular meeting last week, the commissioners tabled the resolution of support for Issue 1 because they were uncertain about how the money would be dispersed.
We don't know what we are getting
said Lenny Eliason, Athens County Commissioner.
Both Eichenberg and Canterbury said the guidelines for funding the road improvement portion of Issue 1 would not change. The only difference would be that the funding would come from bonds.
Eichenberg also said Ohio University probably would try to acquire some of the money from the Third Frontier for different research projects.
The commissioners will examine the issue again at their meeting next week.
We didn't get the answers we needed. We should have them by our next meeting Eliason said.
