While much of the story surrounding the Bowling green football program this season has centered on quarterback Omar Jacobs, just as responsible for the Falcons' success is the receiving duo of Charles Sharon and Steve Sanders.
Sharon and Sanders have already amassed 866 receiving yards on 52 passes over the first four games of the season.
(Jacobs) has two receivers that are going to get a shot at pro ball and have the ability to play
Ohio coach Frank Solich said. They're averaging over 100 yards a game in receptions. They have a combination of things that makes it very hard to stop.
After four games the duo has collected a dozen receiving touchdowns; Sanders leads the nation with eight touchdown receptions.
It's going to be a challenge for us Ohio defensive lineman Seth Ream said. They have an excellent offense.
Defending the nest
The Falcons boast a rather tough defense to go along with their great offensive firepower. Bowling Green defeated Temple last week, 70-7.
Senior cornerback Jelani Jordan was named Mid-American Conference East Defensive Player of the Week last week for his career-high two interceptions.
Bowling Green forced a total of five turnovers against Temple and held the Owls offense to 263 total yards.
Ohio will try to establish the running game against the Falcons' defense, a defense that has allowed over 1,000 yards rushing in four games.
The Bobcats' rushing leader, Kalvin McRae, has had two weeks to recuperate and prepare for the Falcons.
It was good for us as far as getting our legs under us and getting healthy getting those nicks and bruises taken care of
McRae said. I feel like if I have a good game - I had a good game last week so I'm looking to come in and have another one. The week off was good for us ... it did help me learn more about the defense and the kinds of things they like to do.
Battle of the MAC's unbeaten
Saturday's match-up is a battle for first place in the MAC East Division featuring the only unbeaten teams in the division.
Certainly
the team that comes out of this 2-0 in the conference is going to have an edge
but there's a lot of football left to be played
Solich said.
We need to make sure we continue to get better and focus on what's at hand. Right now
that's BG
and we have our hands full with them.
Bowling Green leads the series, 33-21-1, dominating over the past two decades. Since 1982, Ohio's record against Bowling Green is 4-17-1. Last season's game was a 41-16 loss for the Bobcats, a game in which Jacobs threw for 389 yards on 28-44 passing.
You don't want to get into a scoring match with them. Solich said. They put points on the board very easily. If you try and match them big play for big play it gets very difficult.
