The Athens man accused of entering the home of a woman with two underage males and taping her hands and mouth while robbing her was sentenced on Monday to 35 years in prison.
Curtis Storms, whose address is listed as 4596 Long Run Rd. in Municipal Court records, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
Storms was arrested on April 11, after entering the home of 84-year-old Martha Frum. Storms and his accomplices bound the victim while they robbed her home. The only thing that could have made it worse was murder
said C. David Warren, Athens County prosecuting attorney.
The duct tape used to bind Frum pulled the skin from her face and hands when it was removed, causing severe injuries, Warren said. Frum spent several days in O'Bleness Memorial Hospital after the incident. Storms also burned a purse that was the last remaining from Frum's deceased daughter, Warren said. Storms received a five-year prison sentence for tampering with evidence.
The underage males who accompanied Storms have been committed to Youth Services until they turn 21.
The robbery was a particularly gutless act Warren said.
