Events bring parents for weekend fun

Ohio University has hosted out-of-town guests for the past two weekends for Homecoming and Halloween, and this weekend will be no different as parents come to Athens for Fall Quarter's Parents' Weekend.

The reason that we have our family weekends is to make sure that parents and family members know they're welcome here

said Anne Lombard, director of student activities.

Several groups will be sponsoring events and programs such as Laughter After Dark the Marching 110 Varsity Show and a performance by the Chicago Comedy Company during the weekend, and the Office of Student Activities gathers this information and puts it online, Lombard said.

Parents and students can then decide whether they want to participate in these activities, she said.

Parents are not extended formal invitations and they do not need to register for the weekend, Lombard said.

Parents' weekends take place once every Fall and Winter Quarter, Lombard said. The date for the Fall Quarter weekend is usually set during the previous Spring Quarter and is scheduled around OU athletic events, she said.

During Winter Quarter, Parents' Weekend is always on the seventh weekend because a date needs to be set further in advance to avoid travel problems associated with the weather, she said.

Other family weekends are held throughout the year.

Dads' Weekend and Sibs' Weekend are the second and fifth weekends, respectively, of Winter Quarter, Lombard said.

Moms' Weekend is the first full weekend of May, she said.

Most people really appreciate (the family weekends) Lombard said.
