Sophomore collects care items for troops

The recent spike in anti-military sentiment has prompted a care-package drive to garner support for the troops in Iraq.

Jeremy Maglott, an OU sophomore adventure recreation major, is collecting items and cards to send to soldiers overseas in time for the holiday season. He has 10 packages ready to be mailed and said he hopes to have several more prepared by the end of the quarter.

Maglott knows firsthand how important receiving a care package from home can be. He had his own tour of duty in Iraq from March to December in 2003.

This care-package drive is his way of helping out the soldiers who are still overseas, Maglott said.

The holidays are hard for soldiers

he said. Getting something from home reminds troops that people are thinking of them.
