Squads' high finish in regionals praised by coaches

With her own 15th-place finish, Ohio runner Carime Reinhart helped the Bobcat women's cross country team to a 10th-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional.

She will now wait to see if she earns an at-large bid to the national championship Nov. 21.

Reinhart completed the 6K course in 21:41. She was the second Mid-American Conference runner to cross the finish line.

I totally beat my own expectations

she said. With the training schedule I peaked at just the right time.

Assistant coach Mitch Bentley said Reinhart was strong throughout the entire race.

It was obvious early on that she was running comfortably he said. She was running with the top 20 during the entire race. Andrea Maas was the second Ohio runner across the line, finishing 44th, with a time of 22:29. Rachel Beakas (57th), Julia Weisenborn (69th) and Lauren Birnie (106th) also contributed the Bobcats' 291 points. Kendra Churchill and Ali Green also competed for the Bobcats.Toledo was the only Mid-American Conference school to finish in front of Ohio. Michigan won the team title with 52 points.

They ran a phenomenal race

coach Clay Calkins said of the women's team. They did a great job finishing ahead of Akron

who won the MAC championship

and Ball State and finishing just behind Toledo.

The Ohio men finished 11th out of 30 teams. All seven runners finished in the top 100. Jason Linton paced the Bobcats, with a 29th place finish in 29:06 on the 10K course.

I knew that I usually run better on a hilly course

so I was excited to see how I would end up

Linton said. The whole team started out conservatively and I made up a lot at the 5K mark

passing at least 30 runners beyond that point.

Craig Leon (39th), Austin Schiele (62nd), Brian List (70th) and Brian King (82nd) also scored for the Bobcats. Bob Wayner and Shamus Eaton also competed for Ohio.

The Bobcats finished two points behind conference rival Miami in the team standings and beat four other MAC teams. No. 1 ranked Wisconsin took the men's team title with 49 points.

They ran as expected

Calkins said. It was good they were able to finish that high. It was a great accomplishment for them.

He said both teams have exceeded the coaches' expectations and their own expectations this year.

I am proud of the teams' performances and progression over the course of the season and progression from meet to meet

Calkins said.
