The rapper behind the hit song Because I Got High
Afroman, returns to Athens for his third show that promises to be a sold-out performance tonight at The Blue Gator.
When asked if it is his third or fourth visit to Athens, Joseph Foreman, better known as Afroman said: I don't know and you know why.
Fans can expect a party that will last all night 'til they tell me to stop he said. I'm bringing the party and looking forward to the energy.
Joel Schechtman, owner of The Blue Gator, 63 N. Court St., said it's not unusual for popular artists like Afroman to contact him to book a performance. If they do well once or twice
they usually come back. It's all driven by customer response
Schechtman said.
With each of Afroman's two previous sold-out appearances, his local popularity has grown. Afroman said he can't get enough of Athens' atmosphere, and he enjoys performing at a place where the people are on his level.
As you grow older
things change. Performing in Athens helped me recollect on havin' a good time like in high school. It gives me the energy to have a good time
he said.
Promising to be different from any show yet, Afroman said, I'm comin' with a whole other experience - you know what I'm sayin'? People love variety
and I'm bringin' something new to dazzle them.
Sam Kovachy, an Ohio University junior, has been to every Afroman show in Athens and plans to attend the performance tonight.
He's such a big celebrity who gives a good show. Every time I go it's different and always a guaranteed good time
Kovachy said.
Afroman has six hours of music lined up and plans on playing familiar old-school songs to get the party started and everyone having a good time. If time permits, he said, he will bring out some new material.
Opening for Afroman are Jesty Beatz, The Symphonics and Entouraje. This is the third time Jesty Beatz - Darrel Greene, an OU senior - has opened for Afroman.
I love opening for Afroman
Beatz said. He's the first actual outside rapper that comes to the bar scene and packs the house consistently. He's the man.
Entouraje stands out for its uncensored, raw and original beats and lyrics, said Joe Goetzinger, the group's manager. Money, a member of the group and a fan of Afroman, is honored to play in an environment that gives you such positive feedback
he said.
Athens is so different from what we're used to in Middletown (near Dayton). It has more diversity
