Reports that someone was stabbed on East Union Street Saturday are unsubstantiated, according to the Athens Police Department.
APD responded to a call at 2:27 a.m. Saturday in which an unknown female said she saw a person stabbed in front of the Burrito Buggy. According to the caller's account, the victim fled on foot toward Jefferson Hill, APD Lt. David Williams said.
When officers arrived on East Union Street, they found no blood or evidence of a stabbing, Williams said. O'Bleness Memorial Hospital was notified of the incident by police, but no one with stab wounds has reported to the hospital, Athens police Chief Richard Mayer said.
Mayer would not comment on whether he thought the incident occurred.
