Martha Rothey, a Findlay City school board member, was elected president of the OSBA in November. She will serve as the organization's president-elect in 2006 and become president in 2007. She will continue to be a Findlay City school board member. The president-elect of the Ohio School Boards Association said funding is the most pressing issue facing Ohio Schools and her first important task will be to manage a new budget that will be adopted in 2007.
I really believe that I am at a position where I could be an effective leader for the state
Rothey said. I'm very excited and optimistic to begin so that I can educate myself about being the president of the Ohio School Boards Association and make a difference.
As OSBA president-elect, Rothey will be in charge of coordinating the legislative platforms for elections. She will be a delegate for Ohio at the School Boards Association's national convention and will attend both regional and national School Boards Association meetings.
Rothey said she will formulate her plans and goals for OSBA this year while she serves under current president Linda Omobien. Rothey has served as school board member in Findlay for 11 years - working two years as vice president and seven years as president of the board. She also served as a member of the OSBA Executive Committee, the OSBA Board of Trustees, the Federal Relations Network and the Student Achievement Leadership Team. She was also chosen as a member of the 2003 All-Ohio School Board - the most prestigious OSBA honor. She has all the traits that make her the best choice for president said Scott Ebright, director of communications at OSBA. It is very unusual for someone to be elected who hasn't been successful at those levels (of the OSBA) ... We have some really amazing leaders who participate in our school boards. The OSBA will be completing its 50th year of service to public education. OSBA represents and serves school board members statewide.
Locally, Rothey is a program officer for the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. Before I was a program officer (at the Community Foundation) I was a community volunteer
Rothey said. She helped to administer an adult literacy program, an after-school program for children, as well as many other community projects. I am now in a position where these (organizations that I've helped) can come to me to get further assistance
Rothey said.
