A Mineral woman was killed at approximately 3 a.m. yesterday, and her husband has been taken into custody, charged with reckless homicide.
Police found Angela Dane dead on the scene at her 7881 state Route 356 home when they responded to 911 calls. Dane was shot, according to a police report.
Michael V. Dane, her husband, was charged and is being held by the Athens County Sheriff on a $100,000 bond.
I asked for a million
said C. David Warren, Athens County prosecutor.
Warren said there was no motive that he could release, though it's still early in the investigation.
The first 911 call was in response to what was perceived to be a robbery, Warren said. Dane's 13-year-old daughter placed a second call to emergency services, saying her mother had been shot. The dispatch worker told her to keep him (Michael Dane) inside the house according to a recording of the call.
Warren said the charge of reckless homicide might increase as the investigation continues. Reckless homicide is a third-degree felony in Ohio, which places it at the same level as involuntary manslaughter. Perpetrators of third-degree felonies face one- to five-year prison sentences, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
It's what the charge is right now; we'll just have to wait and see Warren said.
Warren said the shots seem to have come from inside the house from a rifle, which the police seized. The sheriff's office declined to release other details of the investigation.
The couple's two children, a 13-year-old and a 4-year-old, were in the house at the time of the shooting.
The preliminary hearing is set for March 3.
Mineral is about 13 miles west of Athens.
