New sites help recent graduates find work

Seniors graduating in June might have an easier time starting their careers thanks to two new Internet resources designed to help college students find entry-level jobs.

On Jan. 17, CareerBuilder.com launched CBcampus.com, a Web site customized for college students and recent alumni.

The site allows visitors to search for jobs and internships based on their college major, experience level, special skills and interests, said Michael Erwin, senior career adviser for CareerBuilder.com. It's not just posting a resume or filling out a form

Erwin said. CBcampus.com allows students to use interactive technology and specialized searches to find their ideal jobs.

CBcampus.com also features quizzes that assess students' interview skills, resume effectiveness and career choices.

In addition, the site houses an interactive blog called Speak Up Speak Out. Written by a CareerBuilder.com staff member who is a recent college graduate, the blog includes suggestions, possible interview questions and job-hunting tips. Erwin said the author speaks with alumni associations and colleges across the nation to come up with topics for the blog.

MonsterTRAK, a division of career site Monster.com, also recently announced the launch of a new Internet resource designed to help college students find jobs.

Partnering with mtvU, the 24-hour college network, MonsterTRAK will sponsor The Opening a show profiling a day in the life of recent college graduates, said Jason Rzepka, a communications manager for mtvU. Episodes will air on mtvU and will be available online at www.jobs.mtvu.com, where visitors also can apply for the jobs highlighted in the episodes, along with other jobs and internships.

Each episode focuses on a different profession from a wide variety of industries. The first episode, which debuted Jan. 25, followed a public relations associate with Estee Lauder, Rzepka said. The second episode, which launched yesterday, features the Management Training Program of Enterprise Car Rentals. Rzepka said there will be six episodes this season, and future episodes still are being planned.

This series not only provides a snapshot of entry-level jobs across a range of industries

but offers real-life

behind-the-scenes examples of how these newly employed people spend their day

Michelle Forker, senior vice president of Monster Campus, said in a press release from MonsterTRAK and mtvU.

Both sites are free to use with no obligation or required registration. That's the great thing about it

Erwin said. By searching on CBcampus.com, students have free access to more than 1 million jobs listed through CampusBuilder.com, he said.

Since its launch a month ago, CBcampus.com has had more than 100,000 visitors, Erwin said. Most visitors to the site are current students, not alumni, seeking entry-level jobs. The site also offers listings for internships.
