Ohio takes 2nd at Kent State meet

The Ohio track and field teams finished their final tune-up before next week's conference championships and set numerous season-best marks in the process.

With almost a quarter of Ohio's athletes competing in next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships, the Bobcats used the unscored Scarlet and Gray Invitational to work on the technical events.

There was a lot of solid marks today

coach Clay Calkins said. We had some good triple jump action and the hurdlers are really coming along both men and women. We had a good day overall

a nice well-rounded day. It was low key

basically just a tune-up for MACs.

The women won three events, including the 4x400 team, which ran a season-best 3:59.03. Aileen Taylor won the 800-meter run while Julia Weisenborn captured the 3,000-meter run.

Jaclyn Lugaila took third in the weight throw with a distance of 16.91 meters, breaking her own school record in the process. She also used a season-high throw of 14.4 meters to finish third in the shot put. Her consistent and continued improvement has led her to the fourth-best shot put throw in the conference this year.

I think it's just proven that I'm still learning

and I'm looking to do better things. These past meets have just been practice for the actual MAC. Since it's my last year

I'm just more determined to be able to leave my name when I go

she said.

On the men's side, Luke High and Jeremy Keesee earned second place finishes, and Anthony Lyons returned from an injury to finish seventh in the shot put.

High's triple jump of 13.00 meters was his best of the year, while Keesee set a season high in the long jump with a height of 6.75 meters. Keesee will help lead the Bobcat men next weekend, Calkins said.

That was a great jump he had today

Calkins said. It was a mental and physical boost going into the MAC meet. He's scored points for us in the past

and we're looking for him to definitely score next weekend.

With the regular season meets now complete, High said the team had a successful indoor campaign.

We had a lot of improvement from last year

High said. We definitely set the standard higher
