Athens City Council adopted an ordinance yesterday giving city patrol officers a four percent salary increase but requiring them to pay small portions of prescription drug and deductible costs.
The ordinance is the new labor agreement between the city and patrol officers.
Costs have gone up tremendously
said Jim Sands, D- at large. The city cannot afford to pay for everything anymore ... The hope is that this will lead them to think about the high costs of services and encourage them to use them more wisely.
Also at last night's meeting, an ordinance authorizing the repair of the Sunset Drive Slips was amended because the amount to complete the project turned out to be lower than previously thought.
The original project amount was $359,544, and the bid estimates the project will only cost $300,000.
This is a very nice amendment said Paul Wiehl, D-1st Ward of the lower cost for the project.
