An Ohio University wrestler pleaded guilty Thursday to one charge of theft of a motor vehicle and will participate in a diversion program, according to Athens County Common Pleas Court records.
James Fowler, 125 W. State St., was arrested in October after he stole a 1991 Ford Taurus outside Souvlaki's Mediterranean Garden, 9 W. State St., according to Athens Police Department records.
Another OU wrestler, Alex Shiff, 97 W. Green Drive, was involved with the incident and was charged with theft, according to police records.
The owner of the restaurant reported the incident to Athens Police after the two drove away. The officers investigated but were unable to locate the suspects. The owner called police again about an hour later, saying he found the suspects walking past his restaurant, according to police records.
The two were suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offense, police records state.
