The spring season brings warmer weather, longer days and a new golf season.
The Ohio women's golf team will tee it up for the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational this weekend. The three-day event will take place at the Arlington Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.
The opening round event will take place with 18 holes Thursday, with the second and final rounds occurring Friday and Saturday. All three rounds will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Each day will include one 18-hole round.
Participating for the Bobcats are seniors Ana Brown and Julie Tomlinson. The duo will also be joined by juniors Kristen Mautz, Shanna Siefke and Meredith Waterston.
With 90 rounds on her resume, Tomlinson holds the best career average on the team with a 79.32. When the team traveled to Arizona in early March, Waterston led the team with a three-day score of 229 (80-75-74).
The Arlington Golf Club has a yardage of 6,193 yards and a rating of 69.5. The front nine fairways are wide and more forgiving than the back nine. Water hazards are featured in four holes, and there are 39 bunkers.
During spring break, while most students were partying on the beach or lounging at home, the women's golf team was at Pinehurst, N.C., tuning their game.
It was good for us
coach Bob Cooley said. The weather wasn't nice. But we played on about eight different courses.
Unfortunately for Cooley and both the men and women's team, the North Carolina weather was windy and snowy. Cooley said it will be nice to finally get to play in short sleeves this weekend, but he expects the wind to be a factor. 17
