The Ohio women's lacrosse team will play its last road game of the season today at Vanderbilt in American Lacrosse Conference action.
The Bobcats (3-9, 0-3 ALC) have only won one road game this year, but the 'Cats will have a shot to win not only an away game, but a conference game as well against the Commodores this afternoon.
We are hoping to get another road win on the season
coach Allison Valentino said. I think we had a really good week of practice our offensive transition is improving and we are making ourselves better.
The Commodores (4-7, 0-2) have lost their last four games heading into a contest that will result in one of the teams earning their first conference win. Vanderbilt's latest losses have come at the hands of top programs like Duke and John Hopkins.
Ohio knows the team must keep up the intensity on the defensive end as it did in its last game against Ohio State.
Defensively we want to continue communicating and working well as a team
we know what players to watch and we want to keep our defense up and keep our momentum the whole game
goalkeeper Jen Heup said. We can't allow ourselves to fall behind like many games this season
so we need to score the first couple of goals and stay with them.
Midfielder Amanda Diehl reiterated the team's goals on defense and getting back into an offensive flow.
We need to shut down their attack and make sure we execute our offense
Diehl said. We want to do the same things on defense we have been and run our game plan and get a win.
The game plan is simple, but is something the team has been striving for all season.
We will be more patient and poised on attack
and we are focused on keeping care of the ball in transition
Valentino said. Also we must be prepared to play solid defense
not only as a group
but on certain individuals too.
Opening draw between the Bobcats and Commodores will fly at 6 p.m. today in Nashville, Tenn., at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
