About 100 students and residents gathered at Campus Sundry yesterday to get the May issue of Playboy autographed by three models who represented Ohio University in Playboy's Top Ten Party Schools feature.
The issue, which hit newsstands Friday, featured fifth-year senior Samantha DeVictor, who went by the name Alexandra Angotti in the magazine; junior Kacey Burke, who went by the fake name Kamelia Berke; and sophomore Khalei Fogle. The women signed autographs, took pictures and talked with fans from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Campus Sundry was chosen because they have been a long-time partner of selling Playboy magazine
said Lee Waedekin, newsstand operations director for Playboy. The shop is a great location ' accessible to students and regular customers he said.
(The Campus Sundry) has the Playboy touch said Paul Abraham, owner of Campus Sundry, 14 W. Union St.
Waedekin said he heard only positive feedback from customers and is very pleased with the sales at Campus Sundry, which sold over 400 issues from the time the issue hit the shelf to 6 p.m. yesterday.
The store was the first in Athens to sell the magazine and used to have a line of 1,500 people waiting outside his door each time a new issue was released, said Abraham, who has read every issue since the publication's birth in 1953.
I think Playboy is a very positive magazine; I think that what it has to say is acceptable
Abraham said.
Since the issue came out, DeVictor said she has received marriage proposals from drunks. Fogle has been shouted at in public, but Burke said she hasn't been recognized.
The signing was the first time the women met one another. They said they get along well and would pose again.
The models said most of their parents and friends know about the magazine feature and were supportive of their decisions to pose, with the exception of DeVictor's dad, who is still in the dark.
DeVictor said that her mom said, Samantha
you know I don't agree with it
but you're a beautiful girl
and you can do what you want.
Katie Sasileo, a sophomore history major, bought four copies of the issue and got them signed for her friends and brother.
They seem like really sweet girls
and we do have a reputation as a party school
she said.
Seth Howard, a senior computer engineering major, who attended the signing, said he thinks the girls represent OU well.
Little Professor Book Center, 65 S. Court St., usually sells about 12 Playboy magazines each month, said employee Curt Holsappel, but the store sold more than 130 copies of this issue over the weekend.
