For the first time since this past May, the Ohio track team stayed home for a weekend meet, the Ohio Invitational.
The teams did not disappoint the home crowd, as both the men and women captured the team titles.
It was just a good two days for the team
coach Clay Calkins said. There was a lot of great performances I'm happy.
The home meet provided advantages that the team does not normally get to enjoy.
It's nice to sleep in your own bed and not have to wake up early and ride on a bus for five hours said Melissa Gedeon, who won the 800-meter run. Getting up and just walking over saves us that.
The Ohio women beat out Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green for the title, scoring 228 points. Bowling Green finished with 195.
Winning eight individual events, the Ohio women also captured a victory in the 4x400-meter relay. The relay team shaved more than four seconds off its time in the MAC Indoor Championships. Andrea Maas, Rachel Beakas and Carime Reinhart all won their respective distance events.
Jaclyn Lugaila set the school record in the hammer throw, en route to winning the event. She also won the shot put, a week after reaching the regional qualifying mark. Rachael Diehl won the pole vault and missed the school record by six inches.
The men ran away with their meet, scoring 209.5 points, destroying the second place team, Ohio Wesleyan, which tallied 132 points.
The men won eight individual events and were led by the duo of Dan Bailey and John Willis. Bailey won the 200-meter dash and finished second behind Willis in the 400-meter dash. The pair also ran on the relay teams that took second in both the 4x400- and 4x100-meter relays.
I think we're doing great
Willis said. We got a couple injuries
so we're hoping we get over those soon. I've been battling mono for the whole last quarter
and I still have it now
but I'm looking to go to at least regionals this year. Last year I almost made it and this year at MACs I was pretty disappointed. We're kind of back with a vengeance.

12563,2006-04-03 00:00:00,baseball: Bobcats take series opener in Toledo
drop last 2,",The big inning proved to be the difference this weekend as the Ohio baseball team lost its second consecutive Mid-American Conference series of the season
this time to Toledo.
All three games featured one inning where either the Bobcats (8-11
2-4 MAC) or the Rockets scored five or more runs.
Ohio coach Joe Carbone spoke of his team's inability to silence the Rockets' bats.
You can't give up big inning runs and expect to win, Carbone said. We just couldn't get the last out in both games. We couldn't stop the bleeding, so to speak.
In the series opener
it was the Ohio bats that came alive early and the Bobcats never looked back. The 'Cats wasted no time
