Ohio University selected Kent J. Smith Jr., as vice president for student affairs, and he will be introduced formally to the university in a Wednesday news conference.
Smith, who received his doctorate from Colorado State University and his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern University, is the dean of students and chief student affairs officer at Auburn University. He also has worked in administrative positions at Case Western Reserve University and Colorado State University.
Smith replaces former Vice President Michael Sostarich who retired Jan. 1, after working at OU for more than 30 years. Richard Carpinelli served as the interim vice president.
After being announced as the new vice president, Smith will work as an OU consultant for student affairs until officially starting July 24, according to an OU Communications and Marketing news release.
Smith's salary is undetermined as of yet, said OU spokesman Jack Jeffery, but Sostarich made $150,100 a year upon his retirement.
