Ohio baseball fans will notice a familiar face in the dugout when the team returns to action for its 2007 season.
In a Friday announcement by Ohio baseball coach Joe Carbone, former Bobcat utility player Andrew See was hired as the program's full-time pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
We're very excited to have Andrew joining us
Carbone said. He has a strong passion for coaching and has been very loyal to both me and Ohio University.
See fills the position that was held on an interim basis by assistant coach Marc Cornell, who acquired the position after the death of longtime pitching coach Bill Toadvine in November 2005.
In his three-year career as an Ohio player, See, who graduated from Ohio in 2001, was very successful while playing a number of positions for the Bobcats.
After transferring from Georgia his freshman year, See was a starting pitcher in the weekend rotation for his first two seasons and the team's closer during his senior year, but his hitting is what he is most remembered for as a player. In his senior year, See led the team with 17 home runs and set a school record with 70 RBI, garnering Mideast Region and Mid-American Conference first-team honors. On the all-time career home runs list at Ohio, See ranks seventh with 33 round-trippers.
After graduation, See played three seasons in the Independent Frontier League for the Chillicothe Paints. For the past two years, See has served as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Appalachian State. During the summer of 2005, he was the head coach of the Athens-based summer baseball team, the Southern Ohio Copperheads.Women's non-conference slate announced
The non-conference portion of the Ohio women's basketball team's schedule was announced Monday.
The Bobcats will play 11 games, with seven taking place in The Convo, and one tournament before beginning their MAC schedule in January 2007.
For the second consecutive season, Ohio will open their season with an exhibition game at home against Division II school West Liberty State. The Bobcats got off to a strong start last season after knocking off the Hilltoppers 81-63 in their season opener.
A game to look out for will be the game against former archrival Marshall for the first time since the team left the MAC for Conference USA Dec. 16 in The Convo.
Ohio will round out its non-conference schedule with a trip to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Florida Atlantic Tournament. High Point, Campbell and host Florida Atlantic will join the Bobcats in the two-day tournament. 17
