Annual cookouts welcome students to off-campus life

The annual Welcome Back Community Cookouts, funded by the Center for Student Legal Services and Athens City Council, will be Saturday at three city locations.

The free cookouts are designed to make off-campus students feel like part of the community and give them information about their responsibilities as new tenants, said city Councilwoman Nancy Bain, D-3rd Ward.

The cookouts will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Arts/West facility on West State Street; 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity House, 92 N. Congress St., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McCracken Field. Food will be provided by Athens Independent Restaurant Association, and Power 105 will provide live music.
