Amanda Andersen is a sophomore middle blocker for the Ohio volleyball team. The Lino Lakes, Minn., native is fourth in kills for the 21st-ranked Bobcats, getting just over three a game. She recently sat down with The Post's Jason Fazzone to discuss winter, Halloween costumes and pranks, among other things.
The Post: You're from Minnesota and I'm sure the winters here aren't as bad as they are up there. Talk about that, especially with us getting closer to the winter months.
Andersen: Yeah, right now actually, this past weekend, it was snowing in Minnesota, so it's kind of funny because I'm so used to the cold weather. It's nice because when I came here as a freshman, I brought snow pants, boots and a big winter jacket, not thinking that the weather isn't as intense here. It's a milder winter. So I'd be getting all warm for class and I'd realize I'd be getting to class sweating. It's really nice because I don't have to walk to class lugging around boots and all that.
Post: Have you ever had a Meet the Parents moment and spiked
someone in the face with a volleyball?
Andersen: Actually, I haven't in college, but in club, I did. In high school, I broke some girl's glasses. Also, another time in one of our club tournaments, I hit a girl in the face and she had a really bad bloody nose and it went all over her jersey and all over the floor. They stopped the game and everyone had to switch jerseys on her team because you're not allowed to play with blood on your jerseys, so that was kind of cool.
Post: I know the team won't be here for Halloween weekend, but if you were here, what would you be going as?
Andersen: We were thinking about getting a group of people together and being the Wild & Crazy Kids that used to be on Nickelodeon. I used to love that show! We were going to get a bunch of kids and have old 1990s-style long shorts and caps and sneakers and make those shirts and just run down Court Street.
Post: Any celebrity crushes?
Andersen: Well, I think Ashton Kutcher is really hot, so we'll just go with him.
Post: Have you played any pranks on (coach) Geoff (Carlston) as a team?
Andersen: Last year, I did one by myself G
