Comedian's CD leaves listeners unamused

Comedian Christian Finnegan is best known for his cunning one-liners on VH1's weekly countdown, Best Week Ever. His new album, however, doesn't reflect his sense of humor on the show.

Finnegan's first release, Two For Flinching, is a blend of weak comedic material and exasperated jokes. Finnegan gets in a few good one-liners, but the poor quality of the 14-track album outweighs a few funny lines.

The CD even kicks off to a very weak start, Finnegan sounding like he needs a few tracks to finally warm up with the audience.

Finnegan's first funny line comes in track four, which deals with relationships. Relationships are a lot like yard sales G

but eventually you realize it's just a bunch of crap you don't need. Sadly, even his one-liners cease for a while and don't pick up again until halfway through the album.

Finnegan's vulgarity, in particular, pushes the envelope in Flinching. He throws out jokes about stereotypical Latinos and low dance threshold sorority girls to get an easy chuckle out of the audience.

A few of Finnegan's better lines rip apart popular culture. He bashes pop artists like the Black Eyed Peas (comparing their performing to an Old Navy commercial) and bashes democracy and Ashlee Simpson in one swift blow.

If you're convicted of a felony in most states in this country you are not allowed to vote. I think if you own an Ashlee Simpson CD G he memorably asks his audience, Who works in an office by a show of broken spirits? Unfortunately, that track pushes the six-minute mark.

Much of Finnegan's material is similar to that of other comedians. He copies and elaborates on Dane Cook's infamous Operation/Monopoly sketch, which makes fun of everyone's love/hatred of the never-ending game that is Monopoly. Finnegan's approach is for the worse. He begins with Cook's same idea, but drags it out so long that he simply kills it.

Finnegan put forth a good effort at his first release but did not live up to the reputation he has molded on Best Week Ever. He should stick to mocking pop culture in 10-second sound bytes rather than Flinching's diarrhea of the mouth approach.
