As the weather diminishes to winter-like conditions, the Ohio men's and women's cross country teams are looking to reduce their times to place high at the Mid-American Conference Championships tomorrow.
Everybody is dealing with the weather. It's an even field for everybody
so there shouldn't be anything that holds us back in regards to that Ohio coach Clay Calkins said.
With an extra week before the meet, the Bobcats are ready for their most important meet of the season.
In preparation for the MAC meet we try to get everybody healthy
rested and feeling good and ready for competition
Calkins said.
Led by senior Andrea Maas and junior Carime Reinhart, the women's team has high expectations. If they do the best job they can
great things will happen
Calkins said.
While Reinhart said she tries to look at every meet as just another race, she did shatter her personal record last year at the MAC Championship by eight seconds and finished fourth overall to receive first team All-MAC honors.
Maas also received honors at last year's championship, finishing 13th and placing second team All-MAC.
Aside from elite individual performances, the women have proved their depth already this season by winning the All-Ohio meet and asserting themselves as the No. 1 team in the state.
However, Calkins said the competition is tight among the top women's teams.
Akron is going to be tough
Toledo is going to be tough
Ball State looks pretty solid right now
and Buffalo can't be counted out because it's their home course
he said.
In the men's field, Ohio looks to cap a successful season with a high finish among the other MAC teams.
I'd like to be in the top five this year on the men's side
