With two games left in the regular season for the Ohio field hockey team, second-year head coach Neil Macmillan can't believe the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Athens is less than a week away.
We were talking about that the other day
he said. It's unbelievable. You look up and it's the last week of October and the postseason is upon you.
Although Macmillan said his second time around at Ohio has gone just as quickly as the first, the Bobcats (10-7, 7-2 MAC) are in position to clinch the No. 1 seed in the tournament if they beat Central Michigan (10-8, 5-3 MAC) today.
This team is one of the better teams in our conference forward Torrie Albini said. So if we knock them off
one
we'll win the MAC outright and two
we'll have a lot of confidence going into the tournament.
Last weekend Albini scored two goals and notched one assist, earning MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
I don't take it personally
she said. I think that the goals were a great finish
but our overall team play was seriously some of the best we've had all year.
That momentum could come in handy against the Chippewas, who are second in the conference standings behind the Bobcats and fighting for the top spot.
They were also the first MAC team to score on Ohio this year.
They're definitely a good team
goalkeeper Jessie Martin said. We need to come out and prove that we should be number one.
To be able to do that says a lot about the kind of team the Bobcats have come to be, considering there has been a lot of movement up and down in the ranks this season among the other five MAC field hockey teams.
Ohio, however, has been one constant ' starting off undefeated in the MAC and staying at the top in conference play for the entire season.
The MAC is really close right now
Martin added. Ball State was a surprise
Miami's a great team
