Sherrod Brown is one of the few in Washington who really understands world trade. Indeed, as New York Times columnist David Brooks said during a recent visit to Ohio, -
Sherrod will immediately be a leader in the Senate because of his ideas. Brooks explained that those ideas pertain to trade and to the destiny of America's middle class.
America has been on the losing end of world trade agreements ever since NAFTA was passed under Bill Clinton in 1993. Sherrod, then a new member of Congress, stood up to the president of his own party and voted against NAFTA. In his book, Myths of Free Trade, Sherrod explains in depth what has gone wrong for America's middle class. We cannot compete against slave and child labor, or products manufactured in countries without environmental standards. American trade agreements need to have fairness for American workers included in the fine print.
You and I can't negotiate the economic fate of our children and grandchildren by demanding a level playing field for America's middle class. But we can elect a man to negotiate for us, a man widely recognized as an expert in the area of world trade agreements. That man is Sherrod Brown. And we need him in the United States Senate.Bill Pancoast writes from Mansfield. 17
