This weekend the Ohio men's and women's swimming and diving team continue its string of home meets, and hope to build off last week's successes against Kenyon and Bowling Green.
The women's team (3-1, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) will have the opportunity to compete in two meets this weekend, swimming against Akron tomorrow and Denison on Saturday.
Ohio coach Greg Werner said that the meets on consecutive days will benefit the Bobcats in the future.
It's very hard
but it is something we will have to do at championships he said. We will actually have to compete on three-and-a-half consecutive days so we do like to schedule some meets back to back.
Junior Lindsey DeStefano added that swimming in back-to-back meets gives her the opportunity to build on the next day.
It's actually a lot better and the second day usually goes better
she said. Usually at the second day of an invitational you feel better.
Last weekend the women's team defeated Kenyon 185-107. Werner said Ohio will be challenged both days this weekend by Akron and Denison.
They are both very good
but Denison does not have the depth that Akron has
he said, noting that the Zips have built off a solid recruiting class, and that every event will be crucial.
The diving will be very important
and that is an event we hope to continue our strong performances in
he said. We have to be balanced all the way though because both teams match up very well against each other.
The men's team (1-1, 0-1 MAC), coming off a 191-99.5 victory, will set their sights on Denison because Akron does not have a men's program.
Denison has one of the strongest men's teams they have fielded in years
Werner said. Looking at their performances against Kenyon last Saturday and our performances last Friday
the meet could go either way.
The Bobcats have a history of closely contested meets against the Big Red. While last season's meet was not as close, the three previous against Denison were decided by the final relay.
While this is not that big of a meet
it is good to face some good competition
