Indoor track and field: Few key scorers unable to secure win

The first-place finishes of distance runners Carime Reinhart and Austin Schiele were not enough for the Bobcats at the Skip Summerville Invite in Akron.

The men finished third and women finished fourth at the four-team meet. Akron won both men's and women's total points.

The distance runners had their share of key performances. Reinhart was one of eight distance women to crack the top 10 in her respective race. Kari Summers finished second in the one-mile run and Rachel Beakas came in third in the 3000-meter race.

Reinhart placed first in the 3000, with a time of 10:12.80, seven seconds better than the second-place finisher.

Despite her win, Reinhart said she is more concerned about the team's progress.

That was our first meet so obviously people are just trying to see where they're at

she said. It's not about me it's all about where the team is at.

Schiele took the top spot in the 3,000 with a time of 8:27.38, less than one second in front of teammate Craig Leon.

The field events also had several point-scoring performances, with 11 Bobcats finishing in the top five in their events.

We didn't finish where we wanted to coach Clay Calkins said. Coming off a six-week break

the first one is always a rough one. We are going to try to regroup.

There were a lot of people not pleased with their performances. As a coach you want everyone to do their best.

Reinhart said the team will use this meet as a guide.

We can't be disappointed

but it gives you something to work for

said Reinhart. We will see where we need to improve for the future.
