The Gordon K. Bush Ohio University Airport will be among the airports studied by the Ohio Department of Development this year in an effort to determine where a regional airport could be created to serve parts of southeastern Ohio.
The department's Luke Peters met with Athens County Commissioners yesterday to explain the airport feasibility study.
The study would research which businesses use airport services and what they use them for, he said. It would also determine where the best site might be for a new airport, or where the department could expand on an existing airport.
The study is being funded by the Federal Aviation Administration and should be completed within two and half months, he said.
Also at the meeting, Paige Alost, executive director of the Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau, highlighted the bureau's newly redesigned Web site, www.athensohio.com, which has seen 1 million hits since it debuted earlier this month.
The Web site's development cost $10,000, but the site is expected to pay for itself by June through revenue from advertising, Alost said.
