Led by a second-place finish from distance runner Carime Reinhart, the Bobcat women landed fourth at the All-Ohio Championships in Bowling Green on Saturday.
Reinhart was the top finisher for the women with her time of 17:42.58 in the 5,000-meter run. Coach Clay Calkins said the team can always count on Reinhart.
Her streak is never-ending
Calkins said. It was a good day.
Reinhart's effort, combined with other key performances on the women's side, was good enough to place them at fourth overall, beating out nine other teams.
Last year at the same meet, the women took fifth and scored nearly 15 points less than this year.
On the men's side the highlight was the third school record broken in as many weeks. Scott Mayle broke his record of 6.83 set in 2003 in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.76.
There were five individual first-place finishes, and one from a relay team on the men's side but their events were not scored. Besides Mayle, the first place finishes came from Craig Leon in the 5,000-meter run, Dan Bailey in the 400-meter dash, Austin Schiele in the 3,000-meter run and Eric Bildstein, who broke a school record last weekend, in the weight throw. The winning men's distance medley relay team was made up of Brian King, Bailey, Kevin Kappers and Schiele.
Calkins said that the men, and this group in particular, can always be counted on to bring their best to a meet.
Those guys are just rock solid just competitors and just doing a great job Calkins said. I was happy with the performances at this stage in the game
especially with what we had to work with.
Calkins said the meet was an indicator of good things to come for the team at the Mid-American Conference Championships in two weeks and that the season has been a rough one for this whole team but that they are working through it.
We are overcoming adversity everyday
Calkins said.
The Bobcats will be traveling to the Ohio State Invite in Columbus next weekend. The MAC Championships will take place the weekend of Feb. 23.
