Indoor Track & Field: Ohio looks for another record-breaking meet at West Virginia Invitational

After a meet filled with outstanding performances last weekend, the Bobcats are traveling to the State Farm Shell Games tomorrow in Morgantown, W.Va.

West Virginia athletes ran alongside Ohio at the Penn State National Invitational last weekend and had several good performances as well.

Coach Clay Calkins said although this meet isn't as competitive as last week's, he still expects his team to perform at their best levels.

You can't have a competitive week every week; the season is too long

Calkins said. You kind of cycle them through to where it evens things out.

He also said that some meets are more competitive for some athletes and less so for others.

Some meets are more competitive for throwers where the Penn State meet was more so for the distance runners he said.

The team is using this weekend's meet to gear up for the All-Ohio Championships in Bowling Green on Feb. 10, which should prove to be very competitive.

Carime Reinhart and Scott Mayle were named female track and male field Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference following their performances in last weekend's meet. Reinhart broke the Ohio 3,000-meter record by more than six seconds, and Mayle hit the NCAA provisional mark for the second consecutive week in the long jump, with a first place finish at Penn State.
