With not enough student-athletes to constitute a team, the Ohio athletic department announced the cancellation of the 2007 lacrosse season Friday morning.
This decision comes two weeks after the Jan. 25 announcement that Ohio will eliminate the lacrosse, men's swimming and diving, and men's indoor and outdoor track and field programs following the conclusion of their 2007 seasons.
Several lacrosse players have said they plan to transfer to other institutions following this school year and continue their athletic careers, and the NCAA will permit them to retain a year of playing-eligibility if they sit out this season.
The Bobcats were scheduled to open their season next weekend, on Feb. 16, at Lehigh. No players or athletics officials could be reached for comment.
