Student remembered with unique celebration

Ohio University's Kappa Phi will celebrate the life of the late Amanda Cunningham this weekend by hosting a Mexican wedding.

Cunningham's untimely death occurred in May 2003, a month before her college graduation. Three years later, friends and family have collaborated to organize an event in her honor. The reception will include free food, music, games and crafts.

Amanda's dream was to have a Mexican wedding

so we're celebrating for her said Kappa Phi president Kristen Welcome.

Because of her involvement and leadership while attending OU, a third-floor room in Baker will be dedicated to her on May 12, 2007.

Donations collected at this weekend's event will be used to sponsor Kappa Phi's Giving Gavel project, which will fund the Amanda Cunningham Leadership Center. Giving Gavels are awarded to registered OU student organizations that have had at least 80 percent of its members make a personal donation.

She was a big part of OU's campus so we are hoping students will attend the event and find out what kind of woman she was

Welcome said.

Cunningham served as president of the senior class, director of University Relations for Student Senate, and co-chair of the Student Campaign Advancement Committee.-
