As it draws closer to the conference tournament, Ohio has picked the perfect time to get back to its winning ways.
The Bobcats have won three straight games, its longest winning streak since it reeled off five to open the season.
We've really started to buckle down and focus
guard Lauren Kohn said.
The win over Ball State (Jan. 27) helped us realize we can beat any team in the (conference) if we come out and play 40 minutes a game.
With that kind of enthusiasm and optimism, it just gets us more ready to play, she said.
The Bobcats (12-9 5-4 Mid-American Conference) are tied with Miami for third place in the MAC East Division. In Saturday's 69-65 victory over Central Michigan four players scored in double figures and guard Rachel Frederick recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Frederick
a starter on last year's team that did not go on a winning streak of more than two games
said that the team has worked through adversity to get back to its winning ways.
In each season, there are going to be highs and lows, but we've worked through it, Frederick said. We know how it feels to win and we were in a losing stretch for a while, and we got just really focused with MAC play getting here.
Coach Sylvia Crawley praised the team's ability to focus for four minutes at a time ' the amount of time between media timeouts ' and said that was a main reason for the team's latest successes.
When we started to express to the players to play hard for four minutes G? I think that's when we really started to turn the corner, Crawley said.
Ohio will face Toledo tonight on the road. The Rockets (7-14
3-6 MAC) led at halftime in their meeting with No. 17 Bowling Green this past Sunday
but could not hold on
losing 73-62. The loss was Toledo's third straight.
Forward Savannah Werner leads the Rockets in scoring with 12.7 points per game and is second in rebounds with just over five boards per contest.
Guard Danielle Bishop and forward Diana Reindl are also averaging in double figures
and Reindl is the Rockets' leading rebounder with seven per game.
The presence of Werner and Reindl
who both stand at 6-feet-1-inch
has forced the Bobcats to emphasize post defense this week in practice to help out an undersized frontcourt.,",17,Archives,Jason Fazzone,200702083988midsize.jpg,Ohio guard
