As a mother of a university student, I too am appalled there is no plan in place for closing because of extreme cold weather. Let me say that even though college students are regarded as adults, it doesn't mean that common sense should not prevail when the weather is dangerously cold. Ask any physician, and they will tell you that frostbite occurs in just a matter of minutes on exposed skin.
Campus officials have their nice warm cars and stay in one place most of the day, so they do not really have to face dealing with trying to stay warm on the campus. I believe that if they had to walk around without benefit of cars, they would realize the danger that the cold weather is posing to the students. I think it is time for the university to enact a policy change for the health and safety of all students on the campus.
