Hockey: Bobcats record another lackluster tournament finish

At least it is finally over.

The Bobcats ended their season on a sour note, losing 7-2 to Oklahoma in the consolation round of the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Tournament.

Following a 3-2 loss to Michigan-Dearborn in the first round of the tournament, Ohio coach Dan Morris said that he decided to alter the Bobcats' style of play in yesterday's game against the Sooners.

We tried to open it up a little bit and take chances

Morris said. We decided to play a different style of hockey than we normally play and it didn't work out for us.

Oklahoma tallied the first and only goal of the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Sooners continued their assault in the second period, notching two more goals. Center Dave Fitzgerald responded with a goal late in the second to reduce the Sooners' lead to two.

The manageable deficit was soon erased however, as Okalahoma scored four goals within a 12-minute span in the third period. Right wing G no matter how much you get beat by

Morris said.

With the Bobcats' disappointing season complete, Morris said he must look toward the future of Ohio hockey, including recruiting players who are mentally tough.

We are trying to keep our recruits interested and it is tough when you have a bad showing at a national tournament

he said. A lot of the faith that recruits put in you can change and the biggest thing is making sure recruits stay with us.

We need more character, and we need more substance, he added. Those are the kind of players that we are looking for.",",17,Archives,Steve Gartner,",",",",",","
