Show features top acts

The moon landing, the Kennedy assassination, the invention of the wheel: all landmark events for previous generations that can now be experienced only on videotape.

For a lost generation of Ohio University twenty-somethings seeking a story for the grandkids, ACRN director of promotions Brian Ostrander recommends looking no further than this weekend's concert in Baker Theater.

(The show) is going to change the way you look at live music

he said.

The show is bringing in what ACRN DJ Jason Robinaugh considers two of the biggest names in national rock. And if that weren't enough, the biggest local band will be there as well.

Returning to Athens after their electrifying performance at 2005's Lobsterfest, The Wrens will be serving a platter of sonic delight at the second-floor Baker Theater. The Wrens are well known for their emergence into the national rock scene in the early 1990s that helped shape the evolution of independent rock.

As Tall As Lions will ride the large, recent wave of grassroots publicity into Athens on their way to South by Southwest, Austin's annual music festival beginning later this month that highlights bands emerging in the independent rock scene.

Adding a heap of local flavor to the show, Southeast Engine will bring its laid-back rock that they've discovered melds so well with The Wrens. Engine drummer Leo DeLuca said the band has played with The Wrens before at Lobsterfest and they seemed to hit it off. Since then, the two bands set a goal of playing a few weekend dates in the future. This weekend's show, he said, is just an excuse for the two bands to play together.

As an added incentive, Southeast Engine plans on playing rarely heard material and songs from its upcoming spring release, DeLuca said.

The Wrens, Southeast Engine, As Tall As Lions and Boston-based The Dear Hunter will be playing at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Baker Theater. The show is free. 17
