Instead of California dreamin', the Bobcats' spring break trip was a nightmare.
Entering break with a winning record, Ohio dropped six of its seven games in the Golden State over the week of spring break.
The Bobcats' lone victory came Friday against Portland State in the opening game of the Stanford Invitational. Pitcher Michelle Sauter threw her sixth complete game of the season, allowing one run on three hits in the 2-1 victory.
Outfielder Kelly Rodriguez knocked in the Bobcats' first run with an RBI single in the third inning, plating Courtney Waters to make the score 1-0. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Allie Farrington knocked in first baseman Candace Saucedo with a single up the middle.
The Bobcats followed up their lone win with a game that resembled most of their others last week. Long Beach State trounced Ohio 8-0 in the second half of the doubleheader, one of three shutout losses the Bobcats suffered over the break.
The Bobcats met Long Beach State once more yesterday, but suffered the same fate. Leading 2-0, Ohio allowed three unanswered runs to the 49ers in the 3-2 loss.
Third baseman Maureen McKelvey led the Bobcats, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. She knocked in the Bobcats' second run of the game with a sacrifice fly. First baseman Meagan McCutcheon added two hits.
Sauter took the loss when she allowed the game-winning run in the sixth inning in a rare relief appearance.
