Your Turn: Candidate Amy Flowers an intelligent asset to Athens

I'm a bleeding blue Democrat, and I've been this way for a while. From dog catcher to the president, I know where I stand when November rolls around. And take it from somebody who has worked way too closely with local election data ' most Ohio University student voters feel the same way.

That's why it's important for students to register and vote in the primary this May. The candidates who want to run for Athens municipal seats, such as city council, mayor and law director, will be running in the primary that month. If you're like me and you know which party you'll choose in November, then take that extra step to help choose the direction of that party and vote in this May's primary election.

I couldn't be happier to find out that my best friend, Amy Flowers, is running for a second term. I've been really proud of her because she speaks out on behalf of students and Athens residents with a firm voice and intelligent arguments. Being friends with Amy Flowers isn't always easy, because she spends most of her life meeting with students, city residents, committees, groups, you name it ' but I wouldn't trade her for the world. She works hard to do everything she can for this town, and I'm lucky to know her.

Amy Flowers is somebody I hope readers are proud of, too. As a democratic organizer, I've traveled the state and the country meeting with College Democrats and elected officials. They always want to know what Amy Flowers is up to next, and not one trip goes by without people telling me how lucky we are to have her in Athens.

If you haven't met Amy Flowers, look her up or stop by a city council meeting. She represents the city residents in an at-large seat, and she's running for re-election. Please vote for her in the primary this May (don't forget to register), and Pick Flowers for Athens City Council!Mark Gaffney is a senior creative writing major.
