Crosswalks might be a good idea for the locations described in the editorial, and the university should certainly do all it can to minimize dangers to anyone on campus. But please put the responsibility for self-preservation where it belongs: the university does not put students in peril who are listening to iPods and not looking both ways when entering a roadway. They, and anyone else foolish enough to step into the street without looking, are placing themselves in danger.Barry Thomas is a professor emeritus in the Department of Modern Languages.
