Women composers know what women listeners enjoy, an idea that the Calliope Feminist Choir is bringing to fruition tomorrow night.
The choir is presenting music about women, arranged primarily by women in their fifth annual concert this weekend at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Mill St.
We sing music that isn't readily available elsewhere
said Heather Cantino, assistant to the director and choir member.
The choir, a 30-woman group with members ranging from ages 16 to 74, was founded in 1933. The group sings pieces focusing on things concerning women such as equality, war and social justice.
Nancy Pierce, the group's artistic director, will conduct the show. Most songs are sung a cappella with a four-part harmony. Others will be accompanied by guitar and piano.
The concert is at 7 p.m. tomorrow and 4 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church. There will be a reception after each concert.
Tickets are on a sliding scale from $10 to $25. They are asking attendees to pay what they are able. Student admission is $5 for those who cannot afford the $10 price. 17
