Athens residents and off-campus Ohio University students can throw away extra trash without having to pay the usual extra-bag fees beginning Monday during the city's spring clean-up week.
Through Friday, residents can place any number of trash bags at the curb on the regular trash pick-up day for no extra cost, according to a news release from the city.
Larger items can be placed on the curb without arranging for a pick-up but will cost $25 for the first four cubic yards and $3 for each additional cubic yard.
Building materials, tires and liquids will not be picked up from the curb. Residents must call the service garage at 593-3343 to arrange for those items to be picked up.
Dumpsters will be available at the service garage, 387 West State St., for scrap metal and trash. Residents can dispose of large items in the dumpsters between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday without a charge. People must have a photo I.D. or other verification of an Athens address to deposit trash there.
