The Ohio women's golf team heads to Nashport, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Longaberger Golf Club this weekend.
Seniors Meredith Waterston, Kristen Mautz and Shanna Siefke will lead the Bobcats in the eight-team tournament hosted by Eastern Michigan, just as they have led Ohio all season. This is the three senior co-captains' final conference tournament.
Meredith
Kristen and Shanna have been our top three players all year assistant women's coach Jeff Hetler said. Meredith was No. 1 for a while and then Shanna kind of took that over. Kristen has played really well in the spring over our last couple tournaments.
With all three players capable of scoring better than the others at any time, a healthy rivalry has developed in the group.
All three of them want to be in that top spot
Hetler said. There's good team competition within. Everybody is fighting for their spot. It makes everybody better.
Waterston agrees that the competition and years together have helped the seniors.
I think that we as seniors have come together and worked really hard over the years
Waterston said. We have really good team chemistry. If somebody's not doing as well as they like
the other players can help to pick them up.
Siefke did not participate in the Lady Buckeyes Spring Invitational last week because of tendonitis in her Achilles heel.
She has been receiving treatment
and she'll have it wrapped
Hetler said. It still makes me a little uneasy
but she wants to play
wants to help her team.
The Bobcats hope to improve upon their fifth-place finish in the 2006 MAC Championships.
We're going to have to get four scores in the 70s every round
Hetler said. We haven't got that this year
