Regarding The Post's recent stories and editorial concerning the perceived disenchantment of Russ College of Engineering faculty with Dean Dennis Irwin, let's put your statistics into perspective. Let's see now, you report that one third of the faculty responded to the evaluation, and 44 percent of the respondents spoke loud and clear in support of a study to be conducted to decide Irwin's reappointment.
Let's say there are 30 faculty in the Russ College, as an example. One third of that number would be approximately 9.9 faculty members who responded, of which 44 percent spoke loud and clear. That number would represent 4.3 faculty from the hypothetical total of 30 faculty. My question? Where is the big story you are trying to sell your readers? I doubt there is any department within the university that couldn't produce similar figures of so-called disenchantment.Jack Ellis writes from Athens and is Vice President Emeritus for Development for Ohio University.
