Stephanie Blackburn said she feels a little stressed out every now and again.
Who can blame her?
She's going into her second season as co-captain of the Ohio volleyball team and tried out for the United States National Volleyball Team in February. By the way, she's a pre-medicine major who's balancing her coursework and volleyball.
I just figured out what I'm going to be taking next year
and it's going to be really tough to get all my classes in she said.
Blackburn plans on taking the MCAT test at the end of the summer and eventually getting into medical school to become a dermatologist, a balancing act that has gained her a great amount of respect from Coach Geoff Carlston, who called her the epitome of a student-athlete.
She's taking very hard classes and always taking physics or calculus or chemistry
he said. For her to be able to do that and do the things here G
she said. I really wanted to become the first female to win it.
Next year, Blackburn plans on trying out again for the U.S. National Volleyball Team, but as for now, she's preparing to lead the Bobcats in the 2007 season, which will be her second stint as co-captain.
She is coming off a 2006 campaign in which she was named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team, also having earned the Bobcats' Team Heart Award for showing the most all-around commitment
dedication and energy.
Carlston said Blackburn's determination makes her someone to watch not only next year in Ohio green and white, but also once she enters the real world.
When she puts her mind into doing something
she's going to do it
Carlston said. If she wants to be a brain surgeon
she'll do it. If she wants to go and play for the USA National Team
I think she'll do it.
I'm excited to see what kind of things she's going to do in the next two, three years.",",17,Archives,Jason Fazzone,200705224500midsize.jpg,",",",",","
