The Ohio University Muslim Student Association is hosting an annual open house Sunday at the Islamic Center of Athens.
The afternoon at the center, 13 Stewart St., will begin with a discussion of the history of Muslims in Athens and will include a presentation titled Islam and World Peace by Dato' Mohamad Abu Bakar, a visiting professor from the University of Malaya in Malaysia.
MSA member and emcee Jordan Robinson said organizers of the event are opening the mosque not just for prayer but to make it a place where people can not only learn more about Muslims but also get to know Muslim neighbors
classmates colleagues and friends.
Usame Tunagur, another member of the MSA, said similarities should be recognized and differences celebrated by those of all faiths.
Gathering in a place of worship you recognize that we are all coming from the same creator
he said. The only way people can really know about one another and get over differences is through meeting and talking.
The open house is from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
